If you're looking for an action movie, with little progress in the story line, then just stick to old X-Men films. But if you want a detailed, action packed movie...with SUPERB acting...then watch this one. And you will NOT be dissapointed.

Interesting, none of the shots bothered me. I thought the filmmaking actually had a classic feel to it, and I chalk the cool shots up to the cinematography. They never took me out of the film, and when I did notice them I admired them (e.g. when Geoffrey Rush walks down that flight of steps during the speech he gives Firth near the end). Overdirected is usually a term I apply to Tony Scott's films, but I thought Hooper did a great job. Maybe not worthy of a best director nod, but certainly very competent.

Tom Hooper over-directed the hell out of this film. Cohen's cinematography left me befuddled and drawn out of the story being played out on screen. I appreciate that they were attempting to make a very different looking historical drama, but I was distracted by the inconsistent coverage of the scenes, the oddly framed shots, and a very long, unnecessary tracking shot that appears midway through the film. If it doesn't help you to tell the story, don't add any eccentric visual stylings to your movie.

Glad you included "Capote." It's an extremely underrated film, especially considering the cast assembled - when you have Philip Seymour Hoffman, Chris Cooper, and Catherine Keener in a film, you can only expect greatness, and this film delivers.
